IE and Film majors win in iLife and Aperture 3 Photography and Video competition

The afternoon of P-Noy's first State of the Nation Address (SoNA) turned out to be a most productive learning experience for the participants of the Aperture 3 Photography Seminar and Competition at the Learning Commons of EnggLib2. Despite the suspension of classes last July 26, 30 participants attended the event and allowed renowned photographer Gunther Deichmann to add to their knowledge on photography. Apart from imparting photography tips and techniques to the participants, Mr. Deichmann also engaged them in a photo exercise with the theme 'space and shadow'. Three lucky participants were selected by Mr. Deichmann as winners of an iPod shuffle, an Apple digital speaker/ alarm clock, and a PowerMac shirt for the first, second, and third placers respectively. All prizes were courtesy of the PowerMac Center, the premier source for Apple products. The winners were Kim Patricia Silang from the IE Department (1st place), Rolf Emmanuel Ocampo from EEEI (2nd place) and Cery Jean Quiambao from the SLIS (3rd place).

July 27, the second day of the two-part event, proved just as fruitful for participants of the iLife Video Seminar and Competition. Mr. Melvin Tosino, Apple Certified iLife trainor presided over the lecture and imparted tips on the essential elements of a good video, shooting techniques, and how to create the best video output using iLife's iVideo. A competition also followed the seminar where participants were asked to shoot around campus and edit their material on the spot using iVideo. Hazel Tan from CMC-Film and Kim Patricia Silang from IE emerged as the day's 1st and 2nd place winners respectively.

The event's success was due to the collective efforts of the EnggLib2, PowerMac Center, and the UP FLIPP whose members took charge of the registration and the event's program.

Customized slippers for Engglib2's The Learning Commons

Ms. Laureen Liaonag hands TLC slippers to Ms. Sharon Esposo

It was a happy day for the Engineering Library II when Ms. Laureen Lioanag turned-over her generous donation of customized slippers for the library's The Learning Commons (TLC) last July 5, 2010. The 30 pairs of slippers, lined in the cheerful TLC colors of lime green and orange, are the fruition of Ms. Lioanag's "Slippers for your library" project presented to Engineering Library Head Librarian Ms. Sharon Ma. S. Esposo last April of this year. These will be used by students entering the carpeted facility of the TLC. It was primarily to help maintain the cleanliness of said section. Also included in the project's aims were to give back to the library by providing materials for use in its facilities, and to encourage student awareness in the importance of the library. The said project is an embodiment of the "I need. I value. I love my library." campaign spearheaded by the Engineering Library II which aims to instill responsibility in the care and maintenance of the library and its materials and facilities among library users.

Ms. Liaonag was a student of the EEEI and is a founding member of the UP Herald, a community service student organization that aims to provide free publishing of information and as well as effective information dissemination for the members of the University.
